Maria Flieger-Gruyters rented an old house on the Singel during World War II after the death of her husband. She converted the house into a guesthouse, the starting point of the Estheréa boutique hotel. The guesthouse, which comprised 12 rooms, expanded over the years as Maria acquired several neighbouring houses.
At present Maria’s granddaughter Esther is running the hotel, while her sister Caroline is in charge of maintenance and interior design, and brother Jan-Willem attends to his impressive fish tank in the lobby and the lush patio gardens. In its 75 years of existence the Estheréa has transformed from a small, simple guesthouse into a sparkling deluxe gem. What has stayed the same is the cosy family atmosphere, personal attention and a unique feel for service and detail.
